win a tour of Turkey

Step into a time machine as you journey down the western plains of Turkey, from the vibrant city of Istanbul to the ‘Turkish Riviera’, from the Black Sea to the Mediterranean.

It is said that a journey of a thousand miles must start with a single step, if this is also true of a journey of a little over 700 miles then your first steps on our Ancient World Tour are those taken to discover the majestic and imposing city of Istanbul.  From its early creation as Byzantium in 660 BC this city has grown to be home to over 14 Million people.  You will explore the historical centre and start your education of the multiple civilisations of Turkey.  Modern man has also touched this landscape, you will visit Gallipoli and learn its place in the history of the Great War of 1914.  We discover Homeric Troy of around the 13th Century BC, The Ancient Greek cities of Pergamon and of course Ephesus, where Neolithic Man first settled in 6000 BC.  The Kings of Pergamon established the Spa at Hierapolis at the end of the 2nd Century BC, you will be as amazed today at Pamukkale as the Attalids were all those years ago.  Finally we journey to the coast and Antalya, founded by King Attalos II around 150BC during the Hellenistic period and bequeathed to Rome on his deathbed you will see many Roman influences.  And so you have left the Black sea and arrived at the Mediterranean.

What's Included

More to discover, more for your money

When you travel with A Secret Turkey we are confident you will have a great trip, confident you will learn something new and pretty confident you’ll make some new friends too.  We’d like to make booking your tour as easy for you as possible so you can get on with looking forward to your adventure.  That’s why we try to include as much as we can in the price of your tour.  We think this is important so the only surprises you get on your tour are the ones that put a smile on your face.

Now not all tour companies do this so please make sure you check what’s included in the price if you are comparing our tours with those of another company

Our advertised Tour price includes the following elements.

Return flights from London Gatwick Airport to Turkey.  We have based our prices on departures from London Gatwick.  We can as long as a flight is available price regional airports too.  Turkish Airlines for example fly to Istanbul from Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh as well as London.  Prices from the regional airports do vary but we will make this very clear when quoting them to you if the price is higher than the Gatwick price.

Transfers from and to the airport in Turkey.  We will collect you from the airport on your arrival into Turkey, we have transfers that connect with the London Gatwick flights.  We will also take you back to the airport for your flight home.  These transfers are included in the price.  If you require private transfers to join the tour from another point or wish to extend your stay and also wish to be transferred to or from another hotel then we will cost these services for you and make clear any increases in price.

Accommodation in 4* or 5* Hotels for the duration of the standard advertised Tour.  We base our price on 2 people sharing a Twin or Double room with a private bath or shower and WC.  We use a range of hotels that both offer our guests the facilities they need as well as affording the most suitable location to ensure the minimum amount of time is wasted in traffic.  Some hotels are also more experienced in handling tour groups and can facilitate efficient check in and out procedures.

All meals.  We wanted to include Breakfast Lunch and Dinner on every day of your tour.  This means you don’t have to worry about making dining arrangements.  If however you decide to order extra food services or drinks from your hotel etc you will be expected to settle your own account for these items before you depart.

All admission fees and entrance charges to the sites advertised on the tour.  This couldn’t be easier, your price includes getting in.  Astonishingly we have noticed this isn’t always the case with other tour companies so please check carefully.  We do offer some optional items locally, our professional guides are very experienced at understanding the wishes of each tour group and may present some options to you locally.  One such item are balloon rides in the Cappadocia region, although a stunning experience we recognise not everyone would wish to have this included in the price.

Services of your dedicated tour guide.  Our Customers tell us that our Guides ‘make their tour’ for them.  Obviously their job is their passion, but that said they are on the go pretty much 24/7 and this is one of the really great advantages of taking a locally escorted tour.  Your guide is the authority on what you are travelling to see.

24hr Medical Assistance. Your tour guide provides this service for you for the duration of your tour.  You don’t have to worry about where medical assistance would come from you just need to know that it will come if you need it.  Please note this service is not travel insurance, you MUST have suitable travel insurance arranged before you travel to Turkey.

Coach transportation for your booked tour.  We are very pleased to be able to secure excellent drivers and modern cruising coaches for all our tours.  It is important to us that your journeys are comfortable so you can soak up the views afforded to you by the ever changing landscape of Turkey.  Your driver will quickly become your newest friend and along with the tour leader will look after you on your trip.

Please remember you will need a valid passport to visit Turkey and now you must also have at least 6 months validity left on it before you travel.  You will need a visa too, although Turkey announced that this would only be available electronically before travel for 2014 they have continued to permit the local purchase on arrival.  A Secret Turkey do not recommend this method however as the queue on arrival can be quite long.
